I think of my abstracts as alternative landscapes.
I am a painter and collagist. Originally collage was a process I used to develop ideas for my paintings. Now the collages that I make are small intimate art pieces in their own right. They are made from a variety of papers, fabrics and found items which I collect.
My paintings feature flat blocks of acrylic color with crisp hard edges. These fields are juxtaposed with imagery that has been applied using a variety of techniques. Along with paintbrushes, I often employ palette knife, airbrush, and turkey baster, hand made stencils, bubble wrap and finger painting to get the effects I am looking for. Any paint applicator is fair game.
I like to create compositions that have a tension, a delicate balance; as if the objects are about to shift.
